KOSHA officially published the key trends about Occupational injuries and illnesses as of February, 2012 as follows

o Key trends

1) Overall increase in the number of nonfatal and fatal injuries and illnesses at work

  · Nonfatal injuries increased by 624 cases year-on-year

    - By industry types

      Construction: increased by 586 cases

Manufacturing: increased by 376 cases

    - By workplaces sizes

The increase in injuries and illnesses was concentrated in workplaces employing less than 5 employees: increased by 167 cases

The next, workplace employing 16 to 29 employees: increased by 282 cases

      - By accident types

        Falling accident increased by 451 cases

Crush injuries increased by 239 cases

· Fatal injuries increased by 1 cases year-on-year

- By industry types

     Construction: increased by 4cases, Service: increased by 4 cases and Transportation, Storage & Communication: increased by 4 cases

- By workplaces sizes

The increase in injuries and illnesses was concentrated in workplaces employing 16 to 29 employees: increased by 13 cases

The next, workplace employing 10 to 15 employees: increased by 4 cases

      - By accident types

        Electric shock increased by 3 cases

        Crushing increased by 3 cases

Traffic accidents in workplace increased by 4 cases

· Morbidity illness on work related diseases increased by 68 cases year-on-year

- By industry types

     Manufacturing: increased by 65 cases, Transportation, Storage & Communication: increased by 7 cases

- By workplaces sizes

The increase in injuries and illnesses was concentrated in workplaces employing 16 to 29 employees: decreased by 28 cases

The next, workplace employing 30 to 49 employees: increased by 17 cases

· Fatal illness on work related diseases increased by 6 cases year-on-year

- By industry types

     Mining: increased by 17 cases, Construction: increased by 3

2) Key trends in the overall increase in the number of nonfatal injuries at work

  · Nonfatal injuries in manufacturing industry increased by 376 cases year-on-year, and next categories increase the nonfatal injuries

    - By sub-categories of manufacturing industry

      Non metallic mineral product & metallic product manufacturing: increased by 117 cases

      Machinery & Equipment manufacturing: increased by 96 cases

- By accident types

 Crushing increased by 182 cases

 Falling increased by 88 cases

  · Nonfatal injuries in construction industry increased by 586 cases year-on-year, and next categories increase the nonfatal injuries

- Among the sub-categories in the construction industry, nonfatal injuries in building construction business increased by 444 cases and others increased by 152 cases

      - By accident types

 Being struck by falling or flying objects increased by 84 cases year-on-year

       Falling increased by 270 cases year-on-year

· Nonfatal injuries in service industry decreased by 362 cases year-on-year, and next categories decrease the nonfatal injuries

      - By accident types

Slip & Trip decreased by 552 cases

        Collision decreased by 34 cases

In the statistics table of occupational injuries and illnesses of each region (regional/area offices) the numbers in each year indicate official number of injuries and illnesses as of the end of respective years. The monthly figures of the year 2012 indicate the number of injuries and illnesses for the year ending in each month.

2. Economically active population excludes home workers and those working in the public administration sector as these sectors are not covered by Workers’ Compensation Insurance scheme.

3. Occupational injuries subject to direct management: excluding injuries that occurred outside workplaces such as traffic accidents, sports activities, and violence.
