THE 15th annual RoSPA Safety & Health Exhibition and Congress will
be held at the NEC in Birmingham from l3-15 May and the organisers
report that both the number of exhibitors and those attending is likely
to be even greater than the event in 1996 (which itself achieved record
highs of 257 exhibitors and over l4,000 visitors).

And this year visitors also have free access to five other events
taking place at the same time: IFSEC, International FIREX, PE '97, C&I
Europe (formerly Control and Instrumentation) and Security Solutions
with single registration arrangements for ease of transfer between shows.

For the first time at the Birmingham Show, the Department of Trade
and Industry has taken a stand in order to promote the services they
offer to those companies wishing to break into the European market
  - and advice is also readily available from all the prestigious
professional bodies, institutions and associations including, of course,
the HSE and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

Another new departure is the fact that the Asbestos Removal
Contractors Association has taken a stand on behalf of several of its
members. They will use the facility to present their own seminar on
  various aspects of asbestos removal.

In fact RoSPA and Centre Exhibitions are so confident about the RoSPA
Show maintaining and improving its high quality status as the UK's
premier health and safety event that they have developed a brand new
event for Scotland. It will take place - along with its own Congress
and Awards ceremony - in Glasgow from l7-18 September.

The theme of this year's Congress in Birmingham is "Developing a more
powerful approach..." to topic, among others, such as risk management,
corporate responsibility and competence, occupationa1 health, empower-
ing the safety professrona1, working with contractors, on-site transport
and occupational road risk (a session which, the General Election
notwithstanding, should see Glenda Jackson MP in the chair).

An established part of all RoSPA exhibitions is the fact that the
RoSPA occupational safety and health awards are presented during the
course of the last day of the show, with an Awards Winners banquet
held on the final evening. This year's guest speaker is Derek Nimmo
(who hopefully will speak without repetition, deviation or hesitation-
though for considerably longer than one minute!)

All in all, the RoSPA 97 shows are definitely not ones to miss.
